Home Building Timeline From Start to Finish with Chafin Communities

Workers will be busy clearing, excavating, and leveling the lot according to your architect’s plan. Then, they’ll outline the footprint of your home with stakes. This is a multi-disciplinary role that not only designs a house according to the clients’ requests but also ensures that the space and structure comply with local building codes. The architect or designer also coordinates and oversees construction and subcontractors, also known as trades. Homeownership is a journey that can start well before you ever consider pre-approval.

We signed our agreement on April 12, 2012 and had a closing date of November 26, 2012. One of the biggest unknowns with buying new construction is the timing – it’s hard to say when you will actually get the keys to your new home. As your home starts to come to life, you will want to review your selections in terms of fixtures, colors, and other materials. You will also want to finalize any customizations you want. FYI, we plan on a certain amount of possible delays in our timeline, so while we add in extra time, we still cannot predict them all. This timeline is for a 2,000 – 3,000 square foot home which can take about 120 to 150 days to build.

Setting your expectations

Our team is staffed with architects, interior designers, and luxury home specialists that know just how to create the perfect space for you and your family. Though you may have a rough estimate of your new home construction timeline, there are certain factors that can lengthen the home building process. You’ll need to be flexible during the building process and trust that your team will get the job done despite any setbacks. The pre-construction process can sometimes take up to a year with choosing a builder, finding a home site, designing the home, acquiring the building permits, etc. The actual construction process for a custom home can take around one year on average. The time can also vary depending on the location of the house, like if it will sit on a hillside or not.
